Full Description

"R/B iron smelting furnaces" excavated (see below) by Bushnell and Cra'ster for Cambridge University Museum, circa 1962. Recorded on note with BSEMH 1978-556. BSEMH 1978-556 is a bent iron spike, incomplete, with V-shaped copper inlay at thick end, 0. 7cm (?) long. Found in ploughsoil by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). No grid reference cited for ?furnace excavations so possibly different location in Moulton (S1)(R1). January 1989: No record of excavations in Cambridge University catalogue under furnace, iron workings or Moulton! (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) does recall seeing some remains which (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) had turned up but she cannot exactly remember the nature of the remains, other than that "they did not amount to anything very special" (S2). No excavation and presumably not "R/B iron smelting furnaces".

Formerly recorded as MUN MISC
