Full Description
Scatter of worked flints found over a broad area of the field during fieldwalking project - but not systematically covered. A petit tranchet derivative arrowhead fragment was found in S corner of field. The finder was also experimenting in dowsing for archaeological features and claimed a circular feature with internal post settings existed near the NE edge of the field (S1).
1991 - further material found, this included a significant unpatinated blade element, probably early Neo (though the presence of a small number of patinated blades may indicate Mes activity) and a late Neo levallois-type or `tortoise' core. Also a leaf shaped arrowhead from TL 9256 7241. Additional material found 1992 and 1993, including two chisel arrowheads (one with a side spur) and another levallois-type core (S2).
1994: Additional material found includes: small triangular flint axe (6 x 4.5 x 1.6cm) reworked from a broken polished axe; an edge-polished flint knife (5 x 3.5 x 0.9cm) a leaf-shaped flint knife (7.1 x 3.7 x 0.6cm) with wear polish suggesting some form of hafting; as well as other knives, scrapers, borers, cores, blades and flakes. Also 1 possible sherd of pottery (S3).
1996: Additional worked flint and possible Neolithic pottery found (S4). See also IA, BA, Rom & Sax.
