Full Description

`Icehouse Plantation' marked on 1:10000 map in Henham Park to E of site of Henham Hall - HAM 006. Icehouse associated with Henham (new) Hall, which was built in 1793-1797 to replace old Hall burnt down in 1773. According to (S2) located at TM 459 780. `This structure is now derelict. The Ice-house is let into the N side of a hill at ground level, about half a mile from the house. Its depth below ground is approximately 6-9ft. the source of ice was a series of ditches in a low enclosure on the S side of the hill, which was a frost pocket. In about 1915 the structure was used as an army store when the park was taken over to camp troops. It is known that the Ice-house was still there in 1970' (S2)(R1).
