Full Description
Finds made over a number of years on farmland (S1):
a) TL 829 497: roughout for a flint shaft-hole macehead of Maesmore type (S2). Resembles a blade core in the form of a roughly squared block with flat ends, 9cm long, 6.9cm wide at one end & 5.2cm at the other, 6.2cm thick at the wide end and 5.3cm thick at the narrow end. Round hole bored halfway through the block in the middle of one side (hole 1.9cm in diameter & 2.4cm deep). Light grey flint with cream coloured more granular inclusions (hole drilled through this granular material). Late Neo or EBA.
b) TL 829 497: flaked flint axe, 13cm long x 6.5cm wide x 3cm thick. Black flint, damaged by burning on one side.
c) TL 832 499: flaked flint axe, 14.3cm long x 4.7cm wide x 2.8cm thick. Grey flint with pale grey patination, slight iron staining. d) TL 832 499: partly polished flint chisel or small axe, 9.5cm long x 3. 6cm wide x 2cm thick. Grey flint with white patination, slight iron staining. Polishing confined to blade end.
e) TL 832 499: circular flint core, single, facetted platform, flakes removed all the way around. Unpatinated.
f) TL 832 497: flint laurel leaf point, 7.6cm long x 4.7cm wide x 1.1cm thick. Bifacially worked. Mottled white patination on black flint. g) TL 829 498: flint rod 8.6cm long x 1.8cm wide x 9mm thick. Bifacially worked, straight sided, reworked at both ends, but no clear evidence of crushing which would establish its use as a fabricator. Could even be MBA (S3).
h) TL 831 498: roughly circular block of fine grained sandstone, 8.9 x 8.7 x 3.4cm thick. Possibly a rubbing/grinding stone, but no obvious signs of use.
