Full Description

Human bones found whilst digging soakaway (?for the White House) just S of churchyard. At circa 1m depth, only parts of the skull and jaw were recovered, but further bones protruding from the section suggest a burial orientated W-E, with head at W end. The bones are lying on a bed of large flints and fragment easily. The skull may have been supported on flints in a upright position? The burial is about 2-3m from the boundary of St Michael's Church cemetery. `No other finds associated, and no reason to think anything other than part of original Med churchyard' (S1).
Note: C13 spouted pot, circa 20m to SW - see Med.
1997: Monitoring of footing trenches for extension on W side of Church Farmhouse (same building as The White House?) located 3m wide by 1.1m deep E-W ditch extending under Church Farm. Upper levels contained red brick and tile fragments. Parallel to present churchyard boundary. Details in (S2).
