Full Description

1991: Fieldwalking survey prior to construction of Fornham by-pass located a concentration of 19 worked flints (S2). Following machining a shallow feature containing mixed burnt stones (no flints) and powdery charcoal was identified and excavated. It survived to circa 35cm wide and 5-10cm deep. No dateable artifacts from feature (S1).
Also found fieldwalking 2 sherds Roman greyware (small); 2 sherds unglazed Medieval (?C13); 1 sherd ?C16; 3 sherds brick/tile (?Medieval/Post Medieval). Also 7 further worked flints in adjacent area to north west (S2).

Descriptions of flint finds are broad, dating to a specific period bracket is ill-advised. However, they may be later Prehistoric, based on older version on this record, (S2).
