Full Description
1989/90: Scatter of pottery and metalwork found metal detecting:- 3 base & 17 body sherds Med (C13/C14) coarseware (205g); bronze "locking" buckle (LMed/C16); bronze strapend buckle stamp ring & dot decorated (LMed/C16); bronze box mount (Med); bronze harness pendant mount with traces of tinning, cross shaped.
Also two C17/C18 buckles. Details in (S1). Area said to have definite dark soil compared to rest of field. Also coins of Edward I, Elizabeth I (2) & Charles I (S2).
1994: Archaeological desk based assessment was undertaken for the A12 Wickham Market to Saxmundham improvement. The assessment highlighted the large and import Roman site around the Fiveways junction at the southern end of the proposed road improvement, Aswell as five small prehistoric sites, four small medieval sites and four cropmark sites of unknown date close or on the proposed route. In addition the major historic park at Little Glenham and Benhall Lodge Park are noted as landscapes of regional and local importance (S3).
