Full Description

At TM 0367 7788 a circular patch, circa 1m across, of red burnt clay and soil, visible in plough soil with an area of dark soil with pottery adjacent and a second area of dark soil with pottery about 5m away. Probably the ploughed out remains of a pottery kiln - the plough is also turning up fresh natural boulder clay (S1). Further similar burnt patches identified at TM 0364 7789 and TM 0364 7795 (S2). The pottery is a high mica fabric, probably late C1 or early C2 jar forms, some pieces burnished and with dark surfaces. Other finds include an amphora sherd and a Valentinian (364-378) coin (S3).
