Full Description

Iceni coins found by metal detector in sand or shingle on beach (also Med coins etc - see COV 005). IA coins much less worn than the Med.
Autumn 1979: A. Silver early pattern horse, silver pattern horse, ANTEDIOS monogram, ECE type B.
B. ANTED silver pattern horse, in possession of (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), possibly sold. Silver pattern horse found nearby at same time in possession of (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)'s "friend" (see map in parish file). Both seen by Tony Gregory, NAU. Bronze coin IA unidentifiable or Med button? in possession of (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s).
C. Face horse found 200 yards S of B in possession of (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), 1982 (S1).
D. Iceni Boar-horse type C, reverse probablydie links to Allen no. 68, found about 60 yards S of (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)(S2).
E. Iceni Pattern-horse, badly worn, probably an inscribed type (S3).
F. Iceni Pattern-horse, inscribed ANTED, found opposite the (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)(S4).
G. Not certainly located to this area, but somewhere on the beach, a gold stater, British J (Norfolk Wolf) type (S5).
Rumour suggests that a number of Iceni coins were found at Covehithe in 1970's including an unrecorded group of about 15 in Lowestoft. Paul Durbidge suggests that it might be a lost collection (S1).
Also a denarius of Tiberius (AD 14-37) from somewhere on the beach (S4), which might relate if there was a hoard. Further examples of Iceni coins from area to N of road, see COV 005.
Also Med bronze objects in this area, and Edward III penny and farthing.
