Full Description

Fragment of Bronze Age socketed knife or axe from field; (see also Roman, Medieval -post medieval).

Fragment found in 1992, 2.7cm long, 3.5cm wide by 1.4cm thick of socketed object of sub-rectangular section, casting seams on sides. Socket narrows sharply between broken ends. Similar to socketed axe except not wedge shaped - possibly from indented form of Wilburton period or from socketed form of `knife'. Sketch in (S1). Found metal detecting on field between Sallow Grove and Chalkpit Covert, no precise findspot given (S1) (S2).
