Monument record FNM 006 - A12 Wickham Market to Saxmundham improvement; O.S. 0011

1991: Widespread scatter of worked and burnt flint over an area c 200 x 100 m located during fieldwalking survey of preferred new A12 route, using 20 m apart transects. Finds listed as 40 flakes, 1 core (?), light scatter burnt flints (10 kept). Site overlooks River Alde. Also 3/4 Rom and 3 Med sherds (all small and abraded) - general background scatter (S1).

Descriptions of flint finds are broad, dating to a specific period bracket is ill-advised. However, they may be later Prehistoric, based on find context (S2).

1994:Archaeological desk based assessment was undertaken for the A12 Wickham Market to Saxmundham improvement. The assessment highlighted the large and import Roman site around the Fiveways junction at the southern end of the proposed road improvement, Aswell as five small prehistoric sites, four small medieval sites and four cropmark sites of unknown date close or on the proposed route. In addition the major historic park at Little Glenham and Benhall Lodge Park are noted as landscapes of regional and local importance (S3).
