Monument record HNN 010 - Post Medieval artefact scatter of pottery, including stoneware, glazed earthenware and bottle and window glass. (PMed)

Fieldwalking by Edward Savery, 1993, located a scatter of PMed pottery - C16- C17 stoneware and C17-C18 glazed earthenware, together with bottle and window glass amongst a Med scatter (S1). Probable source of the PMed material is a building (now gone) shown on a map of 1769 (S2) and on the OS 1st edition map of 1837 (at TL 9140 7321). This is shown as lying in a small square enclosure in the narrow strip of land that lies between the field containing the pottery scatter and the northern edge of Thorpe Green or Common (IXT 018). This strip has the appearance of an encroachment onto the Green and the scatter probably lies on the original Medieval edge. An estate map of 1725 (S3) shows a house in a similar position, but it is not clear whether it is on the thin strip or on the area of the pottery scatter.
