Full Description

Brick kiln (site of). A dense concentration of broken bricks and peg-tile fragments was noted in an arable field on the N side of a large farm pond. The bricks seemed to be under 2.5ins thick, indicating a likelihood of a C17 or earlier date (S1).
A `Killyard' (i.e. kiln-yard) is mentioned in a deed of 1705 and another of 1806 mentions `Brick Kiln Close'(S2). These seem to refer to this locality. The curiously shaped pond at TL 7799 4825 may be a disused brick pit. Some of the numerous other ponds around here may also have started out as brick pits.
