Full Description

Second World War anti-glider ditches on Weather Heath. Irregular grid of single ditches with small mounds on either side. Circa 100m between ditches and 10m between mounds (S1).
For further anti-glider ditches on Horn Heath to S, see IKL 115, on Larling Heath see ELV 033 and for others on Cavenham Heath, see CAM 019.
1995: Good condition in general. Part of site being used for cattle grazing, but not in general area of ditches (S2).

March 2019. Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The Second World War anti-landing trenches described above are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs (S3-S4). As described above, field survey and more recent aerial photographs (such as Google Earth) indicate that the trenches still survive as earthworks. They have not been mapped as they lie outside of the project area. The limit of the site, and that of the adjacent area of trenches on Larling Heath (SHER ELV 033), has been changed to concord with the parish boundary.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 7th March 2019.
