Full Description

1994: Monitoring of topsoil stripping revealed a spread of medieval pottery next to the road with the highest concentration occurring in the south east corner of the field. Earlier fieldwalking had identified a high concentration of medieval pottery in this area (BCG 005). The majority of pottery recovered during the monitoring dated to 11th-14th century, while a few sherds of 13th-14th century were recovered. A single feature, a N-S orientated ditch was recorded as a section in the side of an excavated sewer trench. A single mesolithic patinated worked flint blade was also seen (S1, S2, S3).
