Full Description
1984: One Ipswich ware sherd found during excavation by S E West in churchyard (see Un)(S1). Not mentioned in (S2). No further details. Finds in store - site archive?
For Undated massive flint & mortar wall in churchyard (possibly associated with claimed chapel or with Guthrum) see Un & for church, see Med.
Two trenches were opened to test reports that a substantial stone structure had been found by grave digging in the last century and had been associated with King Guthrum. Traces of a massive flint and mortar wall were found to the south of the church porch but the depth (2m +) prevented any understanding of the structure. No dating evidence was recovered (S2).
