Full Description
January 1996: Archaeological desktop assessment of the area confirmed that Porter's Covert has been woodland for at least 200 years while the area to the north within the area was heathland until at least 1838. Apart from a bank noted on the Ordnance Survey maps up to the present day running north-east/south-west to east-west across the central part of the area, no earthworks were revealed. No further earthworks were noted in a subsequent earthwork survey (S1).
January 1996: pit containing (beaker?) pottery located during evaluation for proposed crematorium.
Details to follow (S2).
In Nacton parish following boundary change.
