The faint cropmarks of a possible ring ditch have been identified at this location. However it is possible that the features relate to an infilled circular pit in this approximate location until at least 1969.

Full Description

Faint cropmark of ring ditch adjacent to modern trackway between plantations shown on 1977 aerial photograph owned by R Simper

March 2016. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Beauty National Mapping Programme.
No convincing evidence of this ring ditch was identified on the aerial photographs consulted for the NMP mapping. However it must be noted that the aerial photograph listed below (S1) was not available to view. As late as 1969 (S2) there is a large, broadly circular pit located on this former area of heath in approximately the same location as the ‘ring ditch’ recorded. The pit appears to have subsequently infilled and it could therefore be suggested that the cropmark identified relates to the former pit and not an archaeological feature.
S. Horlock (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 16th March 2016.
