Full Description

1997: Roman features and finds from evaluation, (S1).

2002: Monitoring of soakaways identified an undated pit and five sherds of Roman pottery, (S2).

2004: Excavation of half of the development area revealing a mixture of Roman and Early Saxon material and features, together with a large amount of Medieval and Post Medieval finds. A series of features from Late Iron Age to Late Roman included a trackway, slots/gullies/ditches/field/enclosure boundaries, a well (probably Saxon), pits, post holes, a post-holed enclosure, and a pottery kiln.

Neolithic-Iron Age:
Neolithic artefact scatter consisting of worked flints, burnt flints and pottery sherds, a single sherd of Bronze Age pottery and two sherds of Iron Age pottery. No discrete features from any of these periods were located; all finds were residual in later features.

Saxon
uncovered ten Saxon structures, an oven, nineteen pits, six post holes and a large quantity of pottery and other small finds; the extent and nature of these finds and features are indicative of an area of Saxon settlement

Medieval-Post Medieval
uncovered two medieval ditches, large quantities of medieval pottery and various other small finds from this period as well as nine pits, twelve ditches and a structure along with numerous small finds dating from the post-medieval period. (S3).

See also preliminary report, (S4).

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2003 (S5).
