Full Description
1997: Evaluation. Archaeological field evaluation on a c.?? hectare site on land west of Lovetofts Drive, Ipswich revealed a linear ditch, and a penannular ditch, some 11 metres in diameter, belonging to a possible Iron Age hut circle. Body sherds recovered from within the imcomplete circle were from a single pot of probable Bronze Age date, (S1)
1998: Excavation. The excavation revealed the presence of two Iron Age roundhouses, two probable small four-post structures, a semi-circular structure, 20 other pits and postholes and six ditches. The finds evidence suggests that the main occupation is Iron Age (possibly Early to Middle) but there is a single Middle Bronze Age pit and a post medieval posthole. The positioning of the structures in relation to each other indicates that there must be a sequence of events represented but there is neither the stratigraphy nor the dating available to define this. The ditches do relate to each other stratigraphically and a sequence of these can be produced, (S2).
