Full Description

December 1996 & January 1997: (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) metal detector finds of sceatta of Aethilread (Series E, porcupine - BMC 4, North 155) of circa 710-730 and looped gold pendant with `very dark cabochon garnet'. Pendant and garnet are oval. Stone very highly polished and set in collar of gold strip and backed by a thin plain gold plate. Very skilfully cut. Suspension loop of fluted gold strip, attached slightly off centre. Late C7/early C8, possibly slightly earlier (S1).
