Full Description
Line of wooden posts on foreshore between high & low tide (double line close to low tide), appear to be substantial posts. Jetty(?) of unknown date on (Redgate) hard area at end of Redgate Lane (S1).
A Post Medieval boat hard is visible as a combination of earthwork and post structures on aerial photographs, located at TM 17244066 at the end of Redgate Lane in Wherstead parish. The hard has a total length of over 145m and is located in the intertidal zone of the River Orwell. An earthwork bank is visible as well as a number of linear features that are likely to be the lines of wooden posts described in (S1). (S2) (S3) The hard is depicted on the 1st and 2nd Ordnance Survey 25" maps of circa 1884 and 1904, suggesting that the hard is of Post Medieval date. (S4) (S5)
