Full Description
St Mary's Church. In fomer Domesday vill of Easton? (see S4). Saxo-Norman quoins of long and short work at E end of nave; slit window in N wall and round headed doorway, otherwise C14-C15 & C19.
Alleged moat - Taylor & Taylor (S2) state that churchyard was circular, surrounded by a ditch or moat partially filled with water. No trace of these are visible on OS APs (S1). The churchyard is shown as sub-circular/ hexagonal on OS 1st edition map of 1837 (S3) although it is certainly rectangular by the time of the 1904 (1:2500) edition.
Note churchyards in adjoining parishes of Hemingstone (HMG 006) and Coddenham are shown (S3) in a similar form.
1998: Replotted on HER map after (S3).
Tithe map needs checking.
