Full Description

1999: Evaluation and monitoring in advance of the construction of a new hospital annex on a former car park uncovered several ditches, some of which probably date to the Early Saxon period. Most of the ditches probably formed part of the extensive field system, seen in neighbouring excavations, which seems to date from the late Prehistoric period onwards. The southern edge of an apparently curving or circular ditch may relate to the nearby cemetery, but could equally be the outside edge of a right-angled ditch corner (S1).

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 1999 (S3).
