Full Description

September- October 1993: Excavation located 30 sherds Ipswich ware, post holes, part of rectangular building, 13 features consisting of 2 slots, 1 pit & 10 post holes (with Ipswich ware, chalk spindle whorl and iron object) & 14 sherds LSax pottery. The structure was a 8.5m x 6.5m post-hole building the long axis of which was orientated E-W parallel to the existing Stoney Road c.20m to the south. The building comprised two rooms with a hearth in each. The presence of Ipswich ware in some post holes suggests a later Middle Saxon date. Nly 14 sherds of later Saxon pottery were found unstratified suggesting the settlement fell out of use by the end of the middle Saxon period. Details in (S1).
Also Preh, Rom & Med.
