Full Description
Weston Hall: built in late C16th by John Rede. A large part pulled down. Details of standing building in (S1). Shown on Ogilby's 1675 road map (R1) and later maps.
Feb 2000: a well, a wall and a hearth or furnace-type structure all broadly contemporary with the hall revealed during excavation (S2).
Note: roadline of A145 appears to be diverted around hall. Earlier line visible on AP (R1). The road was turnpiked in 1796. Not shown on Hodskinsons 1783 map though Walpole Hall (circa 500m to W now) is marked and named as Weston Hall (see WSN 012).
June 2002: for Resistivity Survey around excavated area see (S3).
There appears to be a park (not named as such), including a lake to the S and a linear pond/canal type feature to the NW of the hall, surrounding the hall in the 19th century though its extent is not clear (probably larger than delineated on the HBSMR mapping). Nothing of it is shown on Hodskinson's 1783 or earlier maps.
For separate deer park see WSN 011.
2019: North window replaced see HBR (S4)
