Monument record COW 021 - Earthworks of a medieval enclosure and field boundaries

Shadow/mark of small rectangular(?) enclosure and field boundary adjoining Newmarket Road. Enclosure appears to be double-ditched to N and W (E unclear, S adjoins road). circa 40m N-S by 60m E-W (S1)

Earthwork boundary banks, boundary ditches, field boundaries, possible enclosures, ponds and possible building platforms, of a probable medieval to post medieval are visible on visualised lidar data from a survey flow in 2023 (S2). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is likely that the earthworks still survive. The features likely relate to medieval to post medieval field boundaries, possible property boundaries and potential settlement features. An area of low undulating earthworks is visible on the visualised lidar data in the south of the area. It’s possible that some of these earthworks could be archaeological in origin, relate to natural features or may be associated with modern activity. Due to the uncertainty of the origin of these features, the area has been mapped by extent.
