Full Description

The excavation of four evaluation trenches in land adjacent to Coulson Lane, Brandon, revealed a substantial build up of topsoil over a colluvial soil which may have been the result of medieval, or post-medieval ploughing. Beneath this layer at the south-east corner of the site, a layer of buried sand produced struck flint and a large sherd of pottery, both of which are thought to be Neolithic. A trench alongside Coulson Lane exposed two ditches and at least one small pit which are thought to be Late Saxon (S1).
