Full Description
Circa 2.6 ha of flint mine complex including large circular (infilled) shafts and gully form mines with surrounding spoil heaps. Some quite large and deep. Appear to relate very closely to northern area of Elms Covert as defined on 1880s OS map (S1).
Note separate area of mines within Elms Covert to W (BRD 067 - may be part of same) & to SE (BRD 167).
This site was previously (see BRD 100) thought to consist of a series of parallel earthwork banks - these now appear to be part of the linear form of mines (S2).
Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2003 (S3).
