Full Description

October 2006: Roman scatter including evidence for high status building/s (almost certainly villa complex), such as box tile, painted wall plaster, large and small tessera and op sig. Also pottery, oyster shells and a variety of metal detected finds (S1)(S2).
Rapid walk-over during detector rally suggested main fragmented tile scatter centred around (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), though lesser amounts spread across field to east and south. Small group (about 5) of large tessera (cut tile) said by one detectorist to come from (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) area. Soil relatively light sandy-clay (S1).
For report & photos of finds from rally see (S2) (S3).
Finds from site (another occasion?) by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) said to include 2 Iron Age coins - 1 potin and one (silver?) rearing horse type.
For earlier detector finds from site see Portable Antiquities Database.
2007: Geophysics identified anomilies that appear to show a Villa (S4).
Also occasional Medieval finds.
