Full Description
Pottery, coins and metalwork found in circa 30cms of soil during construction work on Fire Station extension in the former forecourt of bus depot (S1). Pottery includes one Belgic (? pre-Roman) sherd and one flanged bowl rim (late C3 - C4). Thirty coins, one denarius of Vespasian AD69 - 79, remainder C3 - C4 range AD260 - 360. Two brooch fragments, one a Colchester derivative type. Finger ring fragment, ? boot nail, lead fragments. Also a small amount of Med and PMed pottery and metalwork. (S2)
This site is within the large settlement area at Long Melford.
