Full Description

Evaluation and monitoring identified a series of ditches of probable late Saxon date as well as sherds of Thetford ware.
The pottery was miss identified in both the reports as Roman but further examination revealed that they were infact sherds of Thetford ware including rim sherds (S3).

2010: The evaluation fieldwork revealed a series of intercutting and irregular, probable drainage features, extending across the two evaluation trenches. Three sherds of Thetford ware (not Romano-British pottery) from one of the ditches suggest that the activity may date to the Late Saxon period (S1).

2010: During the watching brief additional sherds of Thetford ware (not Romano-British pottery) were recovered from within a layer of subsoil though no archaeological features were observed. Evidence from two environmental samples demonstrated that although cereals and seeds were present, their remains were most likely derived from a scatter of detritus (charred cereal processing and/or storage waste) (S2).
