Full Description

Date C13. Seen in water-main opposite and NE of most easterly cottage in Friday Street by SEW of Ipswich Museum February 1952. An extensive area of black earth, varying in depth for approximately 50 yards but partially obscured by filling. Contains red burnt earth, burnt stones, bones and pottery. Site on edge of cultivated field. Cited grid reference, TM 3365 5185 does not correspond to description, should be further N.
May 1989: Apparent continuation of site N into Forestry Commission replanting area - see site report (S2).
