Full Description

'Complete Roman Pot' found in ground disturbed on bank of stream, by scambling south of the bridge (S1).

Complete grey ware pot, except for 50% of rim and neck. Fabric: hard, mid grey with darker surfaces, mixed fine sand temper. Form: smaller narrow mouthed jar. Rim small, everted, tapered with a sharp internal angle but smooth exterior profile. Flat base, not turned, fairly faint cheese wire marks. Rim diameter 5cm, base diameter 7cm, height 10cm. Surface partly discoloured - brown iron salts. Burnished on rim tip and inside lip, also poor burnishing on mid body (from below neck to just below maximum girth). Previously seen by Ipswich Mus. (S2).
