Full Description

Large rectilinear N-S mound with in surrounding rectilinear earthwork enclosure bank. The woodland is called 'Ladies Walk', probably within estate associated with Barking Hall (BRK 015). Probably a PMed Prospect mound c. 2 m high (S1).
Shown on 1st ed OS in 1880s. Other early maps not checked.
Sept/Oct 2011: visited by Nigel Macbeth and said to be 'about 5 to 6 metres high at the northern end'. On the east side of the wood 'there is a distinct small mound which is very disturbed. Radiating west from this … is a ditch which heads straight to the large mound …[where] it goes round the southern end and then becomes rather indistinct.' Suggested as possible pillow mound (S2). Archive documents need checking but no rights of free warren recorded according to superficial check.
