Full Description

2010: Evaluation in advance of proposed development revealed a dense concentration of archaeological features in the SE sector of the site, comprising pits, ditches, gullies and post holes. The features produced dating evidence of 10th-12th century date, and are indicative of settlement activity (S1).

2011: Excavation revealed a series of gullies, pits and post-holes of medieval date. Several post-holes located on the eastern side of the site appeared to be part of a post-build structure dating between the 11th and 13th centuries, although the sparse amound of pottery and other finds recovered might suggest that the building did not have domestic function. One of the pits contained a hores burial, reasonably intact although it apears that some elements had been subject to butchery. Other evidence of activity at the site seemed to be largely contemporary with the structure and may represent medieval plot boundaries, a small enclosure and general medieval 'backyard' activity (S2).
