Full Description

Wilby, adjacent to The Nest, Brundish Road following a proposal to erect a new dwelling within the curtilage of ?late medieval and 16th century listed building a desk-based assessment traced the property back to the early Post medieval period as small, sub-tenanted farm of 16 acres called Plumptons. Subsequent evaluation on the proposed house plot site revealed a large feature which can probably be interpreted as a small pond with 15/16th century pottery in its basal fill and a small ditch of 17/18th century date. Examination of the historic cartographic sources combined with an overall site assessment did not support a suggestion that the property should be considered as a small moat (S1).

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2011 (S2).
