Full Description

Nacton Road, towards South West area of landing zone, Ipswich Airport. Pickett Hamilton turret. Flooded to roof level [DW6].
The Hamilton Pickett fort previously recorded to the South of Fenbright Circle (TM 1914 4122) was no longer visible in 2012, and is thought to have been moved to TM 1898 4098, near the bridge N of the A14.
Pickett Hamilton Fort, said to have been 'still in use' into the 1980s.The hydraulic system was under water, but this has been drained and a mechanical assessment found the top section of the fort could be raised and lowered. RAF Ipswich. (S3).
