Tower Mill. First mapped in 1880s (S1) - now disused (S2).
According to Flint first mapped in 1826, ceased work circa 1900. Pepper Mill said to be on same site (S3).
Described as "Small tower mill, built in 1891 by Brewer and Sillitoe to replace an older tower mill. It ceased work by wind c. 1918 and the cap was taken off c. 1918. The tower is now used as a store. There were four patent sails, two pairs of stones, a domed cap and a fantail." (S4).
Mill house survives?

2014: Cockfield Mill, built in 1891, is an example of a traditional brick-built Tower mill. However, its size is relatively small in comparison to windmills of the same type, such as the one to be seen at Pakenham, which is quite a large Tower mill. The small nature of Cockfield Mill, and it is probably one of the smallest recorded in Suffolk, suggests a need not so demanding as some of the larger mills By the late 19th century, local competition in milling was far more commercial than it had ever been, with engine-driven mills to be found in several parts of the county. Nevertheless, this mill clearly was needed to serve on a more local basis and fulfilled that need for a small duration of time until it ceased working in 1900.

The mill is constructed of red brick coated with bitumen; it was probably last re-coated in 1948 as an impression of this date can be seen on the brickwork around head-height. The bricks are laid in a variety of stretcher and header bonds of varying alternating courses to achieve the circumference of the tower. The total height of the tower from ground level is 10.21 m. The original internal floors and fittings of this mill have all been removed, leaving only signs of where some of the original features once existed.

There is a foundation slab or plaque on the wall of the mill, about half way up, facing the approach and may have been inscribed with the date 1891, the date for the construction of the mill. (S5)
