Full Description

Excaavtion of footing trenches and a soak-away trench revealed five skeletons of probable medieval date, all laid supine, on an east-west alignment with skulls at the west end. No finds were preent in any of the grave fills. All five children were under 12 years old but sexing was not possible due to the young age of the individuals. Four of them had no clear skeletal evidence for diseases or cause of death however the final individual showed signs of having Klippel-Feil syndrome and may also have had its heart removed post-mortem. This may have been done for medieval reasons or as part of a superstitious practice, a large stone was present within the right rib cage (S1).

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2012 (S2)
