Full Description

2012: Bronze Age cremations and ring ditch identified at former Unilever site during evaluation trenching and excavation. Two phases of a Bronze Age ring ditch were identified. Within the area enclosed by the ring ditch, 17 cremations were identified surrounding a probable truncated central burial. Ditches of Early Bronze Age date also were identified and point land division, possibly contemporary to the earlier of the ring ditches. Along with the Bronze Age material, a sizeable residual assemblage of Early and Late Neolithic struck flint and pottery was located in the ring ditch and associated ditches (S1).
