Full Description

2013-2014: Excavation identified two unurned cremations in the central part of the site. Radiocarbon dating produced a date of 1970-1760 cal BC. Iron Age ditches and pits were present in the central part of the site inlcuding a partial curvilinear ditch representing a likely enclosure. The only feature of Saxon date was a single inhumation of a subadult/adult radiocarbon dated to 770 to 970 cal AD. At the south end of the site there was a substantial pond and had two clay-built corn driers cut into the upper fill. They contained significant quantities of charred grain. A medieval well and pits were also found as well as a number of ditches. A post medieval trackway was also found represented by 2 ditches, one of which contained a pig skeleton. (S1)
