Monument record WBG 078 - 19th century burial ground associated with Quay United Reform Church

Burial ground associated with the Quay United Reform Church (See WBG 086) on the first edition Ordnance Survey map. The burial ground has since been partly built over by a Sunday School, Crown House and an extension to the chapel. The burial ground appears to be purchased c.1817 and was entered as a place of burial from 1826.

2012-2013: An archaeological watching brief was carried out on groundworks associated with an extension to the church. A total of eight grave cuts, seven brick shaft tombs and four large brick vaulted tombs were uncovered during ground reduction. A further two unmarked graves were identified during after a wall was removed to allow access to the site. A brick built tomb was revealed when a concrete pad was removed. Four graves were identified during the excavation of a soakaway (S1).
