Full Description

January 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Beauty National Mapping Programme.
A section of World War Two Anti-tank ditch is visible as an earthwork between the River Blyth to the north and drains that run into the Dunwich River to the south on aerial photographs (S1-S). Two World War two practice trenches or possible gun emplacements were visible to the north of Westwood Lodge (SHER BLB 103). The northern-most section of this feature was mapped from Google Earth imagery (S) as it was beyond the scope of the current NMP project. This ditch defence has been recorded to the north as SHER REY 099. The earthworks are now mostly levelled, although the southern section can still be seen as a surviving ditch on Lidar imagery from 2010 (S4).
