Building record HAD 154 - Land adjacent to 2 Benton Street

Accompanies a planning application for conversion of a folly to a dwelling house. The building is of soft red brick on the east, south, and west elevations with a natural stone and brick façade on the north elevation. The roof is natural slate. There is a single storey extension of the east side which is brick with a clay pantile roof. The north elevation has a semi-circular ‘tower’ to the left and a ragged flat rubble wall with terminates on the skyline with a parapet. There is a large doorway with a pointed arched head left of the centre. There are also two ‘windows’ and at the base of the tower is a smaller doorway behind which there is a garden store. The turret has slit windows. The building was originally a 19th century stable before the north elevation was converted into a folly. The original features of the stable have gone and the building was been much altered in the 20th century including the replacement of the roof (S1).
