Full Description

This feature was difficult to interpret within the confines of the trench. It was possibly a pit, or ditch, but its profile is suggestive of a sunken-floored building. The feature contained a mid-grey damp sandy silt fill which contained three body sherds of probable 7th century Saxon pottery. The size of this feature was 3.20m wide and 0.56m deep. Feature [58] was in turn cut to the east by a similar large feature, context [65]. This feature crossed the trench on a north/south alignment and measured 2.60m in width and 0.60m in depth. The true extent of both features was not seen within the limits ofthe evaluation trench, (S1).
