Full Description
2000: Desk based assessment, showed location of windmill and tannery (See IPS 674).
2000: Evaluation trenching recorded an area of well preserved stratified archaeological remains, comprising two postholes and two large intercutting pits, one of which contained Saxon pottery of probably 7th century date. The form of the pottery is unusual, with shell tempering more similar to early medieval fabrics manufactured outside the town. Alluvial deposits were found close to the River Gipping, whilst away from the river to the north, former drainage/possible allotment features of undated or recent date were found (S1).
