Full Description

Ditch 0006 was cut by ditch 0047. The two ditches were of a similar shape and size, and 0047 was probably a replacement for 0006. Ditch 0047 appears to have been recut (0035) at the south end and ditch 0012 had been recut (0055) slightly further east. Both phases of ditch 0012 terminated in a butt end just north of the south limit of excavation whereas ditches 0006 and 0047 continued towards St Helen’s Street, to the south.
Ditch 0006 was 80cm-1m wide and only 18cm deep. Ditch 0012 was 50cm wide and 25cm deep originally (0040) and the recut ditch (0055) was 35cm wide and 20cm deep.
Ditch 0047 was originally 60-70cm wide and 50cm deep with the recut (0033), at the south end, 50-60cm wide and 30cm deep.
Structure 0132, a line of 10 stake holes (0117-0126), 2.2m long, was revealed in the base along the west edge of ditch 0047. It is unclear whether they were contemporary with the ditch or predate it. If it predates the ditch, it may relate to the EMED structures 0005 and 0131 to the west.
A LMED layer of densely packed gravel layer (0052) overlay part of ditch 0006 and pit 0048, (S1).
