Monument record RMS 007 - Cropmarks of an irregular-shaped enclosure of unknown date

Irregular enclosure, with N and W sides straight, S and E sides curvilinear, and with an entrance to the S. On the E side of the overall field system (RMS 006).

The site of this previously recorded irregular enclosure is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The interpretation and dating of this enclosure is not certain, neither is its relationship with the surrounding cropmarks recorded under RMS 006. The enclosure would appear to either pre-date or post-date at least one of the trackways, however it must be noted that its straight sides are notable aligned the same as the surround field system, possibly indicating contemporaneity. It is feasible that it acted as a stock enclosure within the wider field system during one phase of it's use. Although undated this cropmark complex (RMS 006) is likely to later prehistoric and/or Roman in date, although see RMS 060 for possible Saxon evidence. Another possible interpretation is that this enclosure represent the remains of a later Neolithic mortuary enclosure or similar prehistoric funerary/ceremonial monument.
