Full Description
December 2019. Breckland National Mapping Programme.
A large undated curved earthwork ditch is seen on aerial photographs and visualised lidar data (S1-S3). The date and function of the ditch is unknown. It is possible that the ditch may relate to 18th century army camps recorded from bibliographic and cartographic sources in close proximity (CUL 037), part of a post medieval tree plantation boundary or a post medieval parkland feature relating to Culford park (CUL 022). The ditch may also relate to post medieval drainage or a natural feature. The ditch is approximately 6m in width and is not seen on the Frist Edition Ordnance Survey map (S4). The ditch is in close proximity to a large ditched oval enclosure to the west (CUL 052).
